What 1,850 reviewed AI tools listed on AInexfinder tell us about how AI software is priced and where makers are building. Every number below is counted directly from our public catalog on 8 October 2026. Nothing is estimated or projected.
Key Findings
- Freemium dominates. 1,128 of 1,850 tools (61.0%) are labelled freemium. Only 91 (4.9%) are fully free.
- About two in three tools can be tried at no cost. 1,219 tools (65.9%) carry a free or freemium label. The rest require a subscription (465) or a paid-only plan (166).
- Free access varies widely by category.Education & Research has the highest free-or-freemium share (85%); Business & Marketing the lowest (30%), with most tools sold on subscription.
- Creative tools lead the catalog. Video & Audio (317) and Image & Design (287) are the two largest of our 10 top-level categories, split into 85 sub-categories.
- .ai is now the second home of AI software. 834 tools (45.1%) use .com and 601 (32.5%) use .ai, ahead of .io (134).

- Pricing model: the label on each listing (free, freemium, subscription or paid). Editors set it during review and re-check it as part of our review process. It describes the entry plan, not the full price list.
- Category: the primary top-level category on each listing. Each tool is counted once.
- What this is not: a census of every AI product on the market. It describes the tools AInexfinder has reviewed and listed. Catalogs that accept tools without review will show different mixes.
